Institution Notes:

A municipal co-educational university. Founded in 1880, it is a conservatory type institution which concentrates on Western music, though a Research Centre for Traditional Japanese Music was opened in 2000. Music programs are available within the Faculty of Music and the Graduate School of Music. The Graduate School enrols Japanese and foreign students. Two programs are available for foreign students, one a research program and the other a degree program, both of two years’ duration.
