Institution Notes:

This non-profit pubic co-educational institution was founded in 1967 as the Institute of Arts and gained its current name in 1993. It is officially accredited by the Ministry of Education and Science. The Conservatory has a collection of 9,000 hours of audio recordings of traditional folk music. In 1991, after the break-up of the Soviet Union, all social subsidies from the USSR ceased, including the subsidies for music and the arts, so the National Conservatory has received no outside funding either for the purchase of music or instruments. Funding from the US Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation has been used to digitise the collection, giving conservatory students training in audio preservation and restoration. An orchestra of Kyrgyz popular instruments was established in 2009. Financial assistance may be donated via MusAid, contact@musaid.org/.
