Institution Notes:
The Academy was founded in 1919 with the name of Riga Conservatory and is currently regarded as equivalent to a university. There are departments of piano, string and wind instruments, voice, accompaniment, chamber music, jazz, conducting, early music, music technology, composition, musicology and music education. Every second year it organises the Jazeps Vitols International Piano and Vocal Competition. An active member of the Association Européenne des Conservatoires, Académies de Musique et Musikhochschulen.
