Institution Notes:

The Music School was founded in 1963. It occupies the house in Vaduz where the composer and organist Rheinberger was born. There are over 90 teachers giving tuition to over 2500 pupils of all age groups at four centres, with classes for children as early as one year old. All classical and modern instruments are taught. Ensembles include choir, orchestra, chamber music, traditional folk music groups, jazz, pop and rock groups. The Music School co-operates closely with the public schools to offer primary school music education, and early childhood music is integrated into all kindergartens. Since 2001 teachers at the Music School have taught instrument and voice classes in the Liechtenstein high school. The School organises around 200 musical events open to the public each year. The library contains about 12,000 volumes, including the works of Josef Gabriel Rheinberger. The Music School organises international summer master classes in July of each year, with classes in organ, violin, violoncello, flute, recorder and singing. Two special weeks are held during the year, one for early music (with master classes in flute, baroque violin, baroque cello, gamba, and harpsichord). The other, known as Jazz Week, offers classes in trumpet, saxophone, trombone, guitar, drums, piano and double bass. A national music competition 'Making Music in Liechtenstein' is held annually. In 2010 the charitable foundation 'International Music Academy in the Principality of Liechtenstein' was organised. It offers music instruction to young, talented musicians from various countries through master classes, enabling them to become acquainted with one another.
