Institution Notes:
The university is sometimes known as Universiti Pertanian Malaysia. It can trace its history back to 1931. The music department, also known as the University Conservatoire, was set up in 1996 as one of the five departments of the Faculty of Human Ecology. Facilities include a multimedia laboratory, a music technology laboratory, a music education laboratory, a piano laboratory and a percussion laboratory. There are also several practice rooms of various sizes and an orchestra rehearsal hall. The department owns a gamelan and organises ensemble groups with traditional instruments. Large, non-mobile or expensive instruments are available for student use.
