Institution Notes:
The University can trace its history back to 1551 but was granted its current name and status in 1910. It operates on other campuses throughout Mexico. The ethnomusicology program is the only one of its kind in Mexico. The School of Music has an 'Iniciación Musical' program providing basic music training to young people from age 8 to age 14, and to interested adults. Single courses are available in music technology and in the construction and repair of stringed and percussion instruments. Member of the Association Européenne des Conservatoires, Académies de Musique et Musikhochschulen.
