Institution Notes:

The Centro Nacional de Investigación, Documentación e Información Musical Carlos Chávez (CENIDIM), founded in 1974, is one of four national entities that form the Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes y Literatura (INBAL). This music section involves itself in research into Mexican music of various genres and periods. It is not a teaching institution. Facilities include a well-equipped computer and electronic music laboratory as well as sound recording studios. There is a museum of over 200 musical instruments, mostly Mexican. Other collections include papers on folk music and jazz in Mexico as well as historical theory books from 1753 to 1944. There is an extensive jazz archive of scores and liturgical music manuscripts from 17th to 19th centres and a sound archive of recordings of traditional music by Mexican musicians.
