Institution Notes:

The Conservatorio was established in 1866, making it the oldest conservatory in Mexico City. It is the host institution of the Orquesta Sinfónica del Conservatorio Nacional, founded in 1881. Placido Domingo was a past student. There is a well-equipped electronic music laboratory. The Conservatorio has a junior department offering music training to young children from age 7 to 11 in the 'Escuela Infantil'. Between the ages 12 to 15 students may begin the 'ciclo inicial' of their professional music training, running concurrently with their general school classes. Member of the Association Européenne des Conservatoires, Académies de Musique et Musikhochschulen.
