Master of Music. In performance (classical, lied, jazz, early music, music theatre, opera, oratorio), conducting, composition, electronic music, composition for film, church music, music education, musical leadership. Master of Music (European Jazz Master - EUJAM). A joint master's program offered by the conservatoires of Amsterdam, Berlin, Copenhagen, Paris and Trondheim. Language of tuition is English. Master of Education in Arts. Doctoral program in Creative and Performing Arts (docARTES). Open to international candidates.
Institution Notes:
A merger of the Conservatorium of Amsterdam, Hilversum Conservatory and Sweelinck Conservatory in 1998 formed the Music Faculty of the Amsterdam School of the Arts. This is the largest conservatory in Holland, and is located next door to the Concertgebouw. There are faculties of music, dance, drama, architecture, fine arts, film and television and museology. The Conservatorium offers one of the largest jazz programs in Europe, including a Master’s Degree in Jazz Performance. The Electronic Music Academy trains electronic music specialists and DJs. On-line courses, one-to-one private video conferencing lessons and masterclasses are offered through the School's CvA Online program (www.cvaonline.nl). The opera program is offered through the Dutch National Opera Academy. The orchestral conducting program is offered jointly by the Conservatorium of Amsterdam and the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague. The four-year Doctoral program (docARTES, launched in 2004) is designed for musician-researchers (performers, composers and the like) and is offered by a consortium of partner institutions in several European countries co-ordinated by the Orpheus Institute in Ghent, Belgium. The participating institutions are: • Katholieke Universiteit Leuven Association, Leuven (Belgium); • University of Leuven and the Lemmensinstituut (Belgium); • Antwerp University Association, Antwerp (Belgium); • Royal Conservatoire Antwerp (Belgium); • Leiden University, Academy of Creative and Performing Arts (Netherlands); • Koninklijk Conservatorium voor Muziek en Dans (The Hague, Netherlands); • Amsterdamse Hogeschool voor de Kunsten (Netherlands). The School organises an annual summer jazz workshop. Languages of instruction are Dutch and English. There is an age limit of 30 years. The School organises a program of music and movement with the elderly. The Sweelinck Academy is a preparatory division offering music tuition to talented young musicians and provides a program of preparation for those wishing to enter the professional program. An active member of the Association Européenne des Conservatoires, Académies de Musique et Musikhochschulen.
