The Southern Institute of Technology was established in 1971. It operates on several campuses, the main one being in Invercargill and others in cities around the country. Programs associated with music are offered in Invercargill. The Southern Institute of Technology offers a Zero Fee Scheme to minimise student expenses. In addition to the professional courses the School offers basic certificate programs in contemporary music and sound engineering. Facilities include state-of-the-art recording studios and equipment.
