Institution Notes:

The University of Otago is New Zealand’s oldest university, being founded in 1869. The main campus is in Dunedin, but there are campuses also in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. The Department of Music offers study in Western art music performance, contemporary performance, composition, musicology and ethnomusicology. There is a collection of early instruments and some Asian instruments. The New Zealand Music Industry Centre is an initiative of the Department of Music, aiming to provide contemporary music and studio production students with commercial opportunities in the music business world. It assists in formalising internships, making studios available for recording and production during university non-educational periods, providing avenues for production and distribution of appropriate works by students, and exploring opportunities for event management and production, marketing and promotion.
