Details:

Bachelor of Education (Primary Teaching). Three years. A level 7 program. Studies involve Māori philosophies, principles and knowledge, and include study of the arts in the New Zealand curriculum - Māori arts, drama, dance, music, visual arts. On completion of the course graduates may apply for registration as a teacher in primary and intermediate schools.

Certificate in Māori Performing Arts. 38 weeks. Minimum age 16 years. No fees are charged. A level 4 program. Studies include individual and group performance (kapa haka, dance, drama Polynesian dance), production skills (make-up, costumes, props, backstage work), Māori language (Te Rao Māori). Diploma in Māori Performing Arts. 38 weeks. No fees are charged. A level 5 program. Graduates may move into the Bachelor of Primary Teaching program.

A Wānanga is a private indigenous New Zealand tertiary education provider that delivers educational programs and opportunities within a Māori environment. This organisation was founded in 1983, and has spread throughout the nation, being granted tertiary status in 1993. It offers bridging and tertiary training courses. Apart from its academic programs the institution is involved in community projects.
