Institution Notes:

The Ole Bull Academy, founded in 1977, is an independent institution offering courses in Norwegian violin and fiddle music and traditional dance. This is a college level music academy devoted to instruction in native Norwegian music traditions. Classes are based on the actual experience of oral traditions, and involve direct participation with voice, instruments and dance. The College is funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Culture and Church Affairs, Hordaland County and the Municipality of Voss. Students taking classes at the Academy may count them for credit as part of the curriculum of the colleges of music in Oslo and Bergen (the Grieg Academy), and in various colleges of education in Norway, with collaboration also with music education institutions in Denmark, Sweden and Finland. There is a collection of violins and Hardanger fiddles. The Academy organises the annual Osa Festival - a meeting place between folk and classical music. Summer courses are offered.
