Institution Notes:

The University of Oslo can trace its history back to 1811, thus being the oldest university in Norway. The Department of Music and Theatre comprises three divisions – Norwegian folk music, musicology and history of theatre. Apart from Western music, studies are also available in ethnomusicology, Norwegian traditional music, jazz, music and new technology, music and media. Facilities include a well-equipped music technology laboratory. There is a significant collection of Norwegian folk music with a sound archive of 45,000 recordings, some 2,000 hours of recorded sound. Fiddle volumes contain 3,862 transcriptions of traditional Norwegian fiddle tunes. Member of the University of the Arctic.
