Bachelor of Arts (Music). Studies include performance (classical, popular, traditional instruments), ethnomusicology (PNG music studies), music technology, dance.
Institution Notes:
The University was established in 1966. The formerly known National Arts School comprising theatre, visual arts and music was formally incorporated into the university in 1989. There are three campuses in the Port Moresby area and study centres in a number of provinces. The Department of Creative Arts is a strand of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences and works in cooperation with the Melanesian Institute of Art and Communication. The music section houses a Contemporary Music Centre which supports a band (Sanguma) and produces recordings. There is a small collection of traditional instruments for student use. Some students make their own instruments.
