Institution Notes:

A government University established in 1908 in Manila, but transferred to the Diliman campus in Quezon City in 1949. There are several campuses in the province. The College of Music is housed in Abelardo Hall which contains a fine auditorium. Courses include both Asian and Western music. In addition to the professional programs the College organises an Extension Program offering music studies to young people and interested members of the local community. A repository of manuscripts, books, recordings and instruments of and related to the creative and scholarly output of the national artist for music Dr Jose Maceda forms the Centre for Ethnomusicology and is housed in the College. This collection comes under the direction of the Office of the Chancellor, and has been declared a UNESCO 'Memory of the World Collection'. The College library houses an extensive archive of Asian traditional music materials, including compositions by Asian and Filipino composers. The department of musicology houses a museum of Asian instruments. About ten resident performing groups are associated with the College. An extension program offers performance, composition and musicianship training to children and interested members of the community.
