The Karol Lipinski Academy of Music (Akademia Muzyczna im. Karola Lipińskiego) can trace its history back to 1948. It is regarded as equivalent to a university and gained its current name and status in 1981. There are four faculties: • Faculty of Composition, Conducting, Theory of Music and Music Therapy; • Instrumental Faculty; • Vocal Faculty; • Faculty of Music Education. The music therapy program may be taken either at undergraduate level by students who have completed at least year one of studies in any faculty of the Academy, or at post-graduate level and leading to the award of a Diploma of Post-Graduate Studies. It is open to musicians as well as to other professionals, especially health professionals and psychologists, who have completed at least the primary school level of music. The Academy organises regular string, singing, piano, oratorio and cantata interpretation, and liturgical music programs. An active member of the Association Européenne des Conservatoires, Académies de Musique et Musikhochschulen.
