The Stanislaw Moniuszko Academy (Akademia Muzyczna im. Stanisława Moniuszki) was founded in 1947 and currently occupies a new purpose-built premises with a fine concert hall and well-equipped recording studio. It is regarded as equivalent to a university. There are four departments: • Department of Instrumental Conducting, Composition and Theory of Music; • Instrumental Department; • Vocal and Acting Department; • Faculty of Choral Conducting, Church Music, Arts Education, Eurhythmics, and Jazz. The library holds the largest collection of scores of any music institution in Poland. The Academy organises several international competitions: the Brahms Chamber Music Competition, the Brass Instruments Competition, the Guitar Competition, the Baltic Piano Competition and the Baltic Violin Competition. There is an International Modern Music Workshop. An active member of the Association Européenne des Conservatoires, Académies de Musique et Musikhochschulen.
