Institution Notes:

This public Conservatorio, founded in 1959, is regarded as equivalent to a university and is currently autonomously run by a board of trustees appointed by the Governor. Apart from offering the full-time professional program, the Conservatorio, founded by Pablo Casals, has several programs outreaching into the San Juan community, including a pre-university program for young people aged 12 to 18 years, a program for the very young, and a Suzuki program (piano, strings, flute). In collaboration with the University of the Sacred Heart, students may opt to take studies in arts administration or music business. The library houses a comprehensive range of printed and manuscript scores of Puerto Rican composers. It also holds all the printed scores of Leonard Bernstein. There is an attached high school offering general school programs as well as specialised music training. Member of the Association Européenne des Conservatoires, Académies de Musique et Musikhochschulen. Member of the National Association of Schools of Music, USA.
