Institution Notes:
This University was founded in 1864. Previously called the ‘Academia de Muzica Ciprian Porumbescu’, it was renamed in 2001 to reflect its full university status. There are two faculties: Musical Interpretation, and Composition, Musicology, and Pedagogy. The University houses a Center of Electroacoustics and Multimedia and a Department for Continuing Education and Postgraduate Music. Facilities include a well-equipped set of studios for recording and processing, a fine auditorium and a newly-completed opera hall. The University organises an annual International Week of New Music, an annual Beethoven chamber music competition and the George Enescu International Festival and Contest every three years. It issues a regular journal 'Musicology Today'. An active member of the Association Européenne des Conservatoires, Académies de Musique et Musikhochschulen.
