Institution Notes:

This Catholic university was founded in 1888. The Faculty of Arts consists of Schools of Art and Theatre and the Institute of Music. All music courses may lead to later teacher training programs. There are a Centro de Documentación Musicológica, a Laboratorio de Tecnología Musical a Centro de Investigación de Tecnologías de Audio and some fine performing spaces. The library contains archives of popular vocal music of Chile, of contemporary Chilean music and of early Western classical music. It also holds an extensive collection of recordings and operatic materials of Juan Alfonso Pino and the library of books, music, folklore, theory and traditional music from the musicologist Samuel Claro Valdés. The Institute issues a number of academic musical publications, mostly concerning the music of Chile and Latin America. A pre-university program offers training to students wishing to prepare for the university courses. A Summer School is offered with a large choice of activities.
