Institution Notes:

The Conservatory, one of the largest higher music institutions in Russia, was founded in 1934. There are eight faculties: Orchestra and Folk Instruments, Piano, Singing, Orchestral and Choral Conducting, Musicology, Composition, Sound Engineering, and Media and Cultural Management and Marketing. Facilities include an electronic music studio, two sound recording studios and computer studio. In 1998 a group of young composers, sound producers and programmers incorporated as the ‘Ekaterinburg Electro-Acoustic Music Studio’. They regularly hold festivals, concerts and seminars on all types of electro-acoustic music. The studio is a member of the UNESCO International Electro-acoustic Confederation. The library houses a collection of folk materials of the Urals as well as a collection of early instruments and scores and recordings of the music of Russian composers. The Conservatory regularly publishes periodicals on musical topics and research papers.
