Undergraduate programs


Bachelor of Music (Honours). Two years following the Diploma in Music. Studies include performance (Western, Chinese instruments), composition, music technology, arts management. Bachelor of Education (Honours) in Instrumental & Vocal Teaching.


Diploma programs


Diploma in Music. Majors in performance (Western, Chinese instruments), composition, music technology. Diploma in Arts Management. Diploma in Music Teaching. Includes Dalcroze/Kodály workshops. Specialist Diploma in Orchestral Conducting. Two semesters. Awarded on successful completion of the Certificate in Orchestral Studies and Certificate in Orchestral Leadership.

Institution Notes:

The Academy was established in 1938 and the School of Performing Arts was established in 1997. It offers programs in the areas of music (Western and Chinese), design and media, fine art, fashion studies, arts management, dance, drama and education. Facilities include a recital hall, a recording studio, and an Italian harpsichord and a gamelan. A bank of instruments is available for student use. A new purpose-built building with state-of-the-art facilities is located in the Civic District. In a collaboration with the Royal College of Music in London students and staff may take up to seven weeks of international placement. There is also some collaboration with the China Conservatory in Beijing for a ten-week placement. The School of Young Talent offers junior courses for talented children. The Academy is expected to become a University of the Arts by 2023 in alliance with LaSalle College of the Arts in Singapore.
