Institution Notes:
Walter Sisulu University was founded on July 1, 2005 through the merger of Border Technikon, Eastern Cape Technikon and the University of Transkei. In 2003 the Secretariat of the South African International Centre for African Music and Dance was founded at the university. Its archive holds around 1000 uncatalogued gramophone records of African music. The Department of Music Education is in the process of establishing a database of researchers of African music and dance, beginning with South Africa and later expanding to neighbouring countries.
