Institution Notes:

In 2005 the University of Port Elizabeth merged with the Port Elizabeth Technikon to form the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University. The University operates on eight campuses and is home to the oldest art school in the country, dating back to 1882. The School of Music, Art and Design offers studies in music and the visual arts. The music department which operates on the South Campus houses four pipe organs and has fine digital recording studios. There is an extramural program of music tuition to school students at the Summerstrand campus.
