The École National des Arts was founded in 1966. It offers programs in music and visual arts. In 2014 a national cultural centre 'Catherine Samba-Panza' was inaugurated at the National School, and comprises an entertainment room, a library, media and video libraries and recording studio. There are departments of music, dance, plastic arts and dramatic arts. The School trains instrumental musicians, singers, dancers, actors and playwrights. It was closed in 1995 due to structural problems in the building, but was reopened in November 2011. The new centre enhances the facility in its aim of preserving and advancing the culture of the Central African Republic.
