Institution Notes:
Laval University can trace its history back to 1663. It gained its current name and status in 1852 and its Faculty of Music was established in 1920. The music program at Laval is organised into cycles. The first cycle (premier cycle) consists of programs leading to Bachelor’s degrees (Baccalauréat). The second cycle (deuxième cycle) is the Master’s degree (Maîtrise) and the third (troisième cycle) is the Doctorate (Doctorat). There is an active opera program. Facilities include several fine performance spaces, a suite of electronic music studios, and an early music studio with a collection of early instruments. An extension program provides music training and assessment to interested young people and adults. The music education section publishes a bulletin on research in music education - Recherche en éducation musicale. There is a wind instrument repair shop. Language of instruction is French.
