This is not a teaching body, through it does hold training courses for teachers and courses for students to complement their existing studies. The Centre was founded in 1996 and is involved in the collection and study of folk music. The archive holds a library of books, scores, manuscripts, photographs, films and field recordings of folk music as well as a collection of over 1000 folk instruments. It issues a regular bulletin (in Spanish and Basque languages). There is a workshop for instrument making and repair. The Centre organises concerts using instruments of the collection.
