Institution Notes:

The Royal Conservatorio was founded in 1830 and established in its current form in 1990. There are departments of performance, early music, composition, musicology and pedagogy. The building houses a number of fine performance spaces. Instruction is given at the levels of elementary (beginning at eight years of age), middle (beginning at thirteen years of age, after completion of elementary level), and upper (beginning at sixteen years of age, after completion of middle level). At the professional level scholarships are available to foreign students. There is a collection of early instruments. An active member of the Association Européenne des Conservatoires, Académies de Musique et Musikhochschulen.
