The private Reina Sofía School of Music was established in 1991 with a double objective: to support the development of greatly talented young musicians, and to bring music closer to society. Selection of students is merit-based, with free registration costs and a generous scholarship program covering the whole or part of tuition and living costs. The Honorary President is Her Majesty Queen Sofía. Professional studies include music tuition and regular master classes to advanced levels for Spanish-speaking and international students. The students give public concerts throughout Spain. The Reina Sofía School of Music is the main activity of the Albéniz Foundation, a non-profit organisation. Facilities include a well-equipped library which also houses the Albéniz Archive and Documentation Center (CADA). CADA holds an archive of photos, documents, editions, audio-visual and sound recordings as well as the Fund Arthur Rubinstein Archive and the Fund Archive Federico Mompou. The Yehudi Menuhin Award for the Integration of the Arts and Education is offered biennially. The School organises an agenda of free annual concerts for school children and young people as well as a ‘Young Artists Summer Camp’ for musicians from 8 to 18 years of age. There is a second campus in Santander. An active member of the Association Européenne des Conservatoires, Académies de Musique et Musikhochschulen.
