Eresbil, founded in 1974, is not a teaching body. Its main goal is the collection, preservation, protection and dissemination of the Basque musical heritage and, especially, the production of Basque composers. It has a huge collection of scores, manuscripts, books, recordings and memorabilia of composers of the region. Musikaste Week, an annual festival held in May, is a means for spreading knowledge of the works of Basque composers. Eresbil takes an active part in the International Association of Libraries, Archives and Music Documentation Centres, and is a member of the International Association of Sound Archives.
