Institution Notes:
The museum, founded in 1946, conducts restoration of and research into historical European and Spanish traditional instruments. It has an important collection of over 500 instruments from various periods and cultures, with biographical and musical documents of the main Catalan composers including I Albéniz, E Granados, J Manen, F Pedrell and E Morera. There is an extensive collection of recorded materials as well as a photographic archive of instruments. While not primarily a teaching body it offers courses in organology and is involved with the conservation and restoration of instruments. The museum organises guided tours, musical performances on original instruments, workshops and family activities.
