Institution Notes:
The university can trace its history back to 1875 when it was a centre of learning for Buddhist monks. It gained its current name and status in 1978 and operates in a number of locations in and around the city. The Department of Fine Arts consists of a Unit of Drama & Theatre and Image Arts, and a Unit of Visual Arts & Design and Performing Arts. Languages of instruction are Sinhala and English.
