In 1772, when the Royal Opera was inaugurated, operatic education was provided, and has continued since that time. In 2014 the School of Dance and Circus, the University College of Opera and the Stockholm Academy of Dramatic Arts merged and founded a new university, the Stockholm University of the Arts offering programs in dance, circus, film, media, music and theatre. The music program at the Opera Högskolan Stockholm is designed to prepare singers for a professional career in opera and music theatre. Summer courses are also offered at Drottningholm. An active member of the Association Européenne des Conservatoires, Académies de Musique et Musikhochschulen.
