Lund University can trace its history back to 1425. There are no tuition fees and no scholarships are available from the university. The emphasis is on research in historical musicology and music analysis. The Faculty of Fine and Performing Arts consists of three institutions - Malmö Art Academy, Malmö Academy of Music and Malmö Theatre Academy. The major departments within the Music Academy are performance, composition, music education and church music. A variety of shorter courses includes programs for foreign students in performance and music education. There is a tradition of intercultural music education which includes co-operation with various ethnic groups. Two such programs are field studies in a Gambian village, West Africa and an exchange program with the National Conservatory of Music in Hanoi, Vietnam. The Academy has access to several fine performing spaces. An active member of the Association Européenne des Conservatoires, Académies de Musique et Musikhochschulen.
