Institution Notes:
The University was founded in 1843 as a Teacher Training College and gained its current name and status in 1999. The Ingesund College of Music was founded in 1923 and since 1978 has formed the School of Music of the University of Karlstad, located in Arvika in West Värmland, 80 kilometres north of Karlstad. It organises summer courses in orchestra, solo performance and methodology of teaching. There is an attached kindergarten and a primary school. An active member of the Association Européenne des Conservatoires, Académies de Musique et Musikhochschulen.
