Institution Notes:
This University, the oldest and largest in Tanzania, was founded in its current form in 1970. It is a UNESCO-aided institution. The Department of Fine and Performing Arts, established in its current form in 1996, has areas of music, fine arts, film and theatre arts. The music library holds an archive of the music of Tanzania and other areas of East Africa. The department organises an annual ethnomusicology symposium. The music section of the department is an associate member of the Global Music Academy of Berlin, Germany, and serves as the Africa campus for the activities of that Academy. Language of instruction is English.
