Institution Notes:
The University of Tunis was founded in 1988. The Higher Institute of Music was established in 1982 and has been incorporated into the university structure. It aims to provide programs in music and musicology at the professional level. Current research involves culture, new technologies and development. Housed in the same building is the Conservatoire National de Musique which offers pre-professional music tuition to young children and interested adults. There is a workshop that manufactures musical instruments.
