Institution Notes:
This University was established in 2005 from the amalgamation of several earlier institutions. There are departments of music, dance and drama. Formerly known as the Institute of Teacher Education, the University initially had the role of producing secondary school teachers. The teacher training activity has been transferred to the ten National Teachers' Colleges across the country, so the Department of Performing Arts took on the role of 'producing diploma-holder tutors for the primary teachers' colleges, and graduate teachers and tutors for the various tertiary education institutions'.
