Institution Notes:
This institution is one of the oldest in the Ukraine, being able to trace its origins back to 1796. It was granted its current name and status in 2007, its informal name being ‘Lviv Conservatory’. There are departments of singing, piano, orchestra, conducting, musicology, ethnomusicology and composition. It houses a research laboratory of Ukrainian music ethnology with the country’s largest collection of Ukrainian folk music and folklore - The Musical Ethnographic Archive. Collection of folk music is actively pursued. The Academy organises a number of instrumental and vocal performance competitions as well as an annual International Festival of Electroacoustic and Computer Music. Courses are taught in Ukrainian.
