The Conservatoire was founded in 1968 and is situated in Donetsk, one of the largest industrial centres of the Ukraine. It occupies two multi-storey buildings. There are departments of piano, organ, stringed instruments, woodwind and brass instruments, percussion instruments, folk instruments, singing, choral conducting, composition and musicology. Courses are taught in Ukrainian. Following the political upheaval that engulfed the Crimea in 2014 there is uncertainty about the continuing existence of the Conservatoire programs as outlined above.
