Institution Notes:

In 2008 Dartington College of Arts, founded in 1961, merged with University College Falmouth and the resulting institution has been granted full university status. Students have access to a new purpose-built Performance Centre with fine performing spaces and state-of-the-art electronic and recording studios. The programs place some emphasis on interdisciplinary arts, contemporary performance and creative arts. Individual study programs are devised to cater for those wishing to make use of the college's facilities for music study. Performance work embraces a wide range of styles and concerns for the nature of performance, such as movement, theatre, visual aspects, as well as musicological research and the acquisition of skills. Styles may include Western art music, world music, ethnomusicology, popular music, jazz, folk music and the like. The university operates on several campuses. There is a collection of early instruments, steel pans, West African drums, a Balinese gamelan and a well-equipped performance technology centre with digital recording, editing, sound processing and video facilities.
