Manchester Metropolitan University can trace its history back to 1824, and gained its current name and status in 1992. It operates on seven campuses, five in Manchester and two in Cheshire. Those with unconventional music backgrounds and practical experience are encouraged to apply. There is a state-of-the-art electronic and recording studio as well as a number of other fine performance spaces. The Department holds an excellent collection of classroom and world instruments, a keyboard laboratory, orchestral instruments, a concert organ and a steel band.
