Institution Notes:

The University of London is a federation of some forty colleges and institutes, not all of which offer programs in music. King's College can trace its history back to 1828, and when the University of London was founded in 1836 King's became one of its two founding colleges. The music department at King’s College, founded by Thurston Dart in 1964, is the largest music research unit in the United Kingdom. Practical music tuition is given at the Royal Academy of Music, London. There are links with the University of London’s School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) whereby King’s students may take courses in ethnomusicology, and SOAS students may take courses in Western music. There is an Institute of Advanced Musical Studies. The College holds a large collection of percussion instruments.
