Institution Notes:

The Studio was founded in 1977 by the Arts Council of Great Britain as a link between the music colleges and the six main UK opera companies - English National Opera, Glyndebourne, Opera North, Royal Opera, Scottish Opera and Welsh National Opera. It is funded by the Arts Council, from awards and scholarships from charitable trusts, from the major opera companies and from individual and corporate donations. The board of management consists of the heads of Great Britain’s six main opera companies. The Studio provides a post-graduate master course for about twelve singers and four repetiteurs each year, and works in close co-operation with the principal opera companies. It is designed to add dramatic, language and interpretative skills to the students’ existing singing talents. Tuition fees are fully covered by grants and scholarships.
