Institution Notes:

This institution was founded as the University College of North Staffordshire in 1949 and gained its current name and status in 1962. The Music and Music Technology Department was established in 1973. Facilities include well-equipped electronic and recording labs. The Tim Souster studio is a digital multitrack recording and composition area. The library holds an extensive collection of music by American composers. Special interest areas in the music department include American music, popular music, acoustic and electro-acoustic composition, aesthetics and analysis. The Department of Music owns a full range of orchestral and early instruments. All music students have the option of spending a semester abroad in the second year of the program.
