The University can trace its history back to 1595. Facilities in the Department of Music's Victoria Rooms include a theatre/concert hall, a recital room, an electronic/recording studio, a computer/video room, a chamber organ and a harpsichord. There is a Centre for the History of Music in Britain, the Empire and Commonwealth. The Brodowski Quartet is Quartet-in-Residence.
