Institution Notes:

The Programme was founded in 1972, since when it has grown into a flourishing training centre, attracting student singers, instrumentalists, composers and young professional musicians from across the world to work with leading conductors, soloists and orchestral musicians in both the Britten-Pears Orchestra and the Britten-Pears Baroque Orchestra. In 2012, to mark the 40th anniversary of the Britten-Pears program, a new international program was launched - the Aldeburgh World Orchestra, drawing its members from across the globe. The Britten-Pears program forms an integral part of the international Aldeburgh Festival. Residencies, supported by the Arts Council of England and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, allow opportunities for musicians and ensembles to work in the relatively calm atmosphere, and while fees are payable for some, a variety of sources of funding are available, making it possible for artists to keep expenses to a minimum. The program works with more than 300 young professional musicians from around 15 countries each year. There is also an education program that works with schools, juvenile offenders, young people and the local community for around 250 days per year, involving them in performances and artistic events.
