Institution Notes:

The Conservatorio was founded in 1975 by José Antonio Abreu for the purpose of training musicians to expand the philosophy and objectives of ‘El Sistema’ - a cultural, educational and social program that encourages young people to feel empowered through participation in ensemble music performance. The Conservatorio is a private and experimental institution in which (mostly poor) elementary and secondary school students from age 14, future performing musicians, music teachers and composers undertake an eight-year program giving them the knowledge and experience to work as professional musicians. Facilities include 36 classrooms for solo and/or group teaching and rehearsal. The Iván Adler Hall is the main concert venue. The Conservatorio Nacional Simón Bolívar forms the preparatory level for students wishing to prepare for university entry.
