Institution Notes:

The Vicente Emilio Sojo National Music Center Foundation was organised in 1978 under the name of La Fundación Vicente Emilio Sojo (Funves). and was granted its current name and status in 2016. It is the national musicological institution of Venezuela and not primarily a teaching body. It exists to preserve and promote Venezuelan musical heritage and to strengthen relationships with other Latin-American countries. There are two divisions: • Research. It holds an extensive collection of archival material and a department of musicological research. • Publication. Music materials by Venezuelan composers are printed and published. The Foundation also organises and promotes musical events and conferences. One role is to provide supervision of higher degrees in musicology and ethnomusicology for some university faculties.
